Retail Theft and Shoplifting Rates Up

17 June, 2009

According to a recent National Retail Security Survey (NRSS), conducted by the University of Florida, commercial loss is on the rise due to increased rates of retail theft. In addition, reports show that shoplifting, administrative error, employee theft and vendor fraud have increased, breaking a six-year decline. The NRSS suggests that the economic recession is partly responsible for increased rate of loss experienced by retailers.

By protecting your business with a security system featuring video cameras, you can prevent loss and reduce the risk of employee theft - the most common in-store retail crime. During this tough economic period, installing a security system may sound like an expensive, unreasonable venture. Consider how much money you could save by preventing petty crimes, and you may discover that utilizing an alarm system is the most economical decision for your business.

The aforementioned survey measures crime rates during 2008, and does not reflect theft that takes place in transit.
