GE Security Offers Safety Tips

15 May, 2009

GE Security values the safety of your home and family. Though employing a home security system is the best way to avoid burglaries, there are various safety tips that should be observed to further reduce your risk of becoming a victim.

  • Always lock your home, even if you are only leaving for a short period of time.
  • Replace door locks when you move into a new house or apartment.
  • If you lose your keys, replace your locks!
  • Ensure that your home security system is well concealed, especially the wiring.
  • Make your home appear to be occupied at all times. Utilize timers for lights and radios.
  • Dogs are excellent deterrents to burglars.
  • Utilize deadbolt locks, instead of spring-latch locks, as they are more difficult to open.
  • Make sure that all entrances to your home are well lit.
  • Thoroughly check the references of all potential cleaning personnel, or any other individuals that you authorize to enter your home while you are away.
  • Do no leave notes for family members or service personnel; they clearly reveal that you aren't home.

Fires and burns are the third-leading cause of injuries and deaths in the home, according to a report by the Home Safety Council. Fire safety and prevention begins with preparation. By observing the following fire safety tips, you will reduce your chance of becoming a victim.

  • Always remain in the kitchen while preparing food.
  • Never leave flammable objects, including curtains, dish towers, and paper bags within three feet of the range top.
  • Before using the stove, roll up your sleeves and be mindful of loose-fitting clothing. Always employ oven mitts.
  • Keep barbeque grills at least ten feet away from flammable objects, including your home and surrounding shrubbery.

IAA Considers GE Security Purchase

7 May, 2009

The Israeli Airports Authority (IAA) is looking to purchase GE Security's highly advanced x-ray machines for Ben Gurion International Airport. When monitoring passenger luggage, the NIS 300 million machines utilize "Hold Baggage Screening" (HBS) technology.

Bradenton-based GE Security, a division of General Electric Incorporated, provides security solutions including alarm systems, fire systems, access control, integrated security systems, explosives and illegal drug detection, machine guarding and more. For airport security, GE Security designs, manufactures, markets, and supports Hold Baggage Screening Systems that provide 100% automated explosive detection service. The HBS technology utilizes x-ray diffraction to accurately identify the molecular composition of materials scanned in checked luggage.

GE Security uses advanced technology, initially developed for the healthcare industry, and modifies it for security solutions. Using the highest resolution on the market, the special Clarity technology allows security personnel to scan checked baggage at great speeds. It provides 3-D volumetric images, with ultra-high detail. With high resolution, airport security personnel can more effectively identify potential dangers, while increasing productivity.

According to a statement issued by the IAA, the transaction is comprised of three elements: purchase the automated x-ray system for a pilot run, maintenance, and then complete the purchase. It is undecided whether or not the maintenance and spare parts will be included.

The Airports Council International (ACI) named Ben Gurion International Airport, the largest international airport in Israel, the best airport in the Middle East. In 2008, more than 11.5 million passengers passed through Ben Gurion. Not only is Ben Gurion International Airport among the world's best, it is one of the world's most secure. Both police officers and Israeli Defense Force soldiers secure the facility 24 hours a day. Airport security personnel work undercover, as well as in uniform, to uphold a high level of vigilance. The Ben Gurion International Airport has been the target of various terrorist attacks.
