The Miami Dolphins and GE Security Team Up

28 January, 2009

The Miami Dolphins of the National Football League are working with GE Security and Ingersoll-Rand Security Technologies Integrated Solutions for IP video surveillance, which will be new at the Dolphin Stadium. Not only will this protect the game-goers, and enhance their game-day experience, but also it will be beneficial for playoff games and the major Bowl Championship Series game and other events held at the stadium.

The Senior Direct of Marketing and Communications for the Miami Dolphins, George Torres, said “The GE Security video system provides a clear view of nearly every seat in the house, so stadium security personnel can respond more effectively to reports of potential disruptions, and fans can play an important role in making sure their game-day experience is the best it can be.” He added, “As a result, we’re seeing fewer conduct issues, which improves safety and makes games more enjoyable for fans overall.”

Adding to this viewpoint, the GE Security Vertical Sales Leader of Sports and Entertainment, Larry Legere, stated, “The Dolphins are committed to creating a positive experience for fans, and our ongoing partnership with them is an extension of that.” He continued, “The video surveillance installation is the first phase of a multi-phase project designed to help the stadium efficiently manage access control, video, and fire detection in and around the facility.”

Ingersoll-Rand Security Technologies Integrated Solutions shares this opinion, as Bob Lewis, the Southeast Regional Director, says, “We worked with Dolphin Stadium to audit the current system and install the best possible video system to meet their needs and high standards.” He adds, “GE Security’s IP solution delivers outstanding image quality and monitoring capabilities required to efficiently manage Dolphin Stadium events.”

GE Security Will Present a Panel Discussion at the GOSH Conference

28 January, 2009

The 2009 Oregon Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health (GOSH) Conference will be held March 9-12 in Portland, and is the largest conference of its kind in all of the Northwest states. Registration is now open for the safety conference, and there will be over 30 all day workshops, along with many single-topic classes, 115 to be exact. This conference aims to educate managers and workers alike on safety and health issues, especially in the workplace.

A moderated panel discussion is a much anticipated event, and will include many business leaders in the security industry, namely the senior management from GE Security, Boeing Portland, Intel, and Skanska USA. These leaders in the industry will discuss how safety and health is important in their organizations, and what is expected of them in terms of leadership and management. GE Security is excited to be part of this large conference.

The coordinator of the GOSH Conference, Sharell Lien, commented, “This is a rare opportunity to hear from top business leaders on how they are managing safety and health in these uncertain economic times.” She added, “I expect the conversation to be candid and insightful.”

There will be general topics such as safety committees, training, accident investigation and motor vehicle safety, as well as conference specialties. These specialties include health care, emergency preparedness and response, workplace wellness, construction, and ergonomics.

The Oregon OSHA (Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division), which is a division of the Department of Consumer & Business Services, has partnered with the Columbia-Willamette Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers in order to sponsor the conference.

FrontPoint, a GE Security Dealer Now Offering Free Remote Video Monitoring

13 January, 2009

FrontPoint is proud to be a GE Security Authorized Dealer, and as such is now offering free remote video monitoring. This is part of the Interactive Monitoring package of completely wireless, easily installed security systems. Remote video monitoring is new technology that is offered by very few security providers, and the Internet-enabled video monitoring is now geared towards the souring economy. The package only costs $39.99 for the ultimate in control and protection, because customers know exactly what is happening at all times.

The CEO of FrontPoint, Chris Villar, commented, “Consumers want to be as connected as possible to their homes, businesses, and loved ones while they’re away.” He also claimed that this offering from FrontPoint and GE Security can help with that because “With next-generation, Internet-enabled video cameras, our customers have the ability to see what’s happening from anywhere—even on PDAs and mobile phones” providing the ultimate in transportability.

The features included in this offer allow for full Internet access and easy-to-use features. Customers can view live, real-time video feed online, even from multiple cameras, and they can also play old, previously-recorded videos. These video cameras can be activated by motion, or can be set up to record at specific times. This is merely another feature that makes GE Security a top-of-the-line home security provider.

Villar stated, “FrontPoint is committed to offering customers a complete, easy-to-use interactive monitoring solution at a very affordable price.” He adds, “We understand that every dollar counts—especially now. For less than $40 a month, consumers can fully protect their properties and families while accessing next-generation features that make owning a security system fun and easy to use—no matter where they are.”

GE Security Introduces its Intelligent Video Verification System VVMIQ

9 January, 2009

VVMIQ is an exceptional concept that can help detect the difference between human and non-human movement. It distinguishes between true and false alarms, thus increasing efficiency of the monitoring system and improving response to alarms. As a result, it is a valuable addition to any residential or commercial security system, as it provides visual verification of an alarm condition allowing the operator in a Central Monitoring Station to prioritize follow-up actions.

When an alarm signal is generated, the system sends the alarm signal together with a video clip. This sophisticated combination of a passive infrared detector (PIR) and a built-in camera is able to distinguish between a human intruder and non-human motion. The human movement is highlighted in a red box, while other motion, such as a circulating fan or a pet, is highlighted in a yellow box. The operator at the remote monitoring station can accurately make a decision if any further action is required.

"Feedback from alarm monitoring stations indicates that less than 5% of signals received require immediate response. GE Security's VVMIQ Intelligent Video Verification System addresses an industry challenge by helping monitoring companies respond swiftly to alarms, resulting in an improved service to their customers,” said Bart Otten, President, GE Security EMEA.

The VVMIQ module is a fully integrated system module like any other expander board, which makes it a system that is both affordable and easy to install. The messages are sent via a secure IP connection or GPRS.

VVMIQ Intelligent Video Verification System is available today for both residential and commercial applications throughout EMEA region sales offices.

GE Security Enhances Nuclear Threat Detection

5 January, 2009

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) awarded $4.2 million to the technology development sector of GE, GE Global Research. This money will help to create top-notch video surveillance technology, in combination with radiation detection, to produce an ultra-advanced technology that can help detect nuclear and radiological threats in public settings. This technology can be used in airports, stadiums, and more.

Specifically, this system can detect moving targets, such as cars or people, who might pose a radioactive threat. Combined with the video surveillance technology, these moving targets can be tracked according to speed and direction.

GE Global Research’s Principal Investigator on the project, Brian Yanoff, said, “GE’s Target-Linked Radiation Imaging system will provide a substantial new capability in the rad-nuke market by detecting and identifying radioactive materials in motion, with unprecedented sensitivity.” He added, “Law enforcement and military personnel will have an innovative new tool to thwart domestic nuclear threats in a variety of different public settings before they can cause harm.”

“In addition to enabling a more vigilant response to potentially dangerous threats, this technology also enhances the flow of traffic through checkpoints, border crossings and other places where vehicles and people are scanned or checked,” Yanoff said.

President and CEO of GE Security’s Homeland Protection Business, Dennis Cooke, said, “The combination of state-of-the-art video surveillance technology with cutting-edge radiation detection will help law enforcement officials better protect communities around the world.” He added, “This is yet another great example of GE's commitment to providing more and better advanced technology solutions to help our customers address real world security challenges.”

Over a space of two years, the project will be in collaboration with the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) of the DHS, involving both scientists and engineers. GE is helping make homeland security more advanced and more safe.
