A Bounty of British Booby Traps

31 August, 2009

According to a May 2009 article posted on www.telegraph.co.uk, one in every 20 British households sets booby traps for burglars rather than using a burglar alarm system or home surveillance, which means that more than a million British homes contain such traps.

As in the United States, these homeowners risk jail because it's illegal to set a trap that could kill or injure intruders. The figures come from the insurance firm Direct Line, which conducted a survey to measure how people go about protecting their property. Common traps range from loose stairs to holes in floorboards to hidden trip wires, and even outdoor garden pits and planted pots attached to weapons. Some property owners who had been repeatedly burgled even resorted to such disturbing extremes as trip-wired nail bombs or shotguns. U.S. home owners are strongly encouraged to look at more safe and sane methods of home security!
